about ordinary mesa
Hi! I'm Rosie Blankenship
Maynard, owner-operator of Ordinary Mesa. Like many web designers,
I operate Ordinary Mesa from my home. I am supported by several contractors,
including designers and technical consultants, many of whom are also
mothers working from home.
I have worked in web
communications for seven years and have 13 years of experience in
print communications. My training includes postgraduate education
in journalism. In addition, I am educated in web design, ecommerce,
Javascript and networking.
My experience outside
of web design includes writing and editing for newspapers and magazines;
developing computer books; managing college publications; managing
communications for not-for-profit organizations; and working on
the communications side of development for not-for-profits. I have
received professional awards for writing and photography.
Before I started Ordinary
Mesa, I worked for large corporations, universities and not-for-profit
organizations.
I found that I prefer to work for small businesses,
educational organizations and charitable not-for-profits, although
I am not opposed to working with other business models. I find
working
with my choice of organizations fulfills a personal desire to make
a difference in the world.
My web design business
philosophy can be summarized by this quote:
"If you do hire outside help for your site, remember to work to one golden rule:
The designer is there to produce what you have asked for, not to use your site to show off what they can do!"
